You will enjoy a Serengeti East Safari during October and November when the mega herds return from Masai Mara in Kenya to the rich plains of the Serengeti National Park, east of the Grumeti River, passing through Lobo and Western Loliondo and under the majestic Gol mountains.

Enjoy a Serengeti East Safari during October and November when the mega herds return from Masai Mara National Reserve to the rich plains of the Serengeti National Park, east of the Grumeti River, passing through Lobo and Western Loliondo and under the majestic Gol mountains, at the northern edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Here, you will find one of the utmost concentrations of cheetahs in the Serengeti, preying on half a million indigenous gazelles and impalas including migrants. The mountains shelter colonies of Ruppell’s Griffon Vultures. Wildebeest cover the central-east valley’s on their way north after the long rains, and some pour through the scenic bottleneck of the Angata Kiti pastures during the shorter rains on their way back south. But with or without the migratory millions, this area is breathtaking for its immensity and feeling of freedom. These lands, the way Africa used to be, are home to the nomadic Maasai people, a fitting destination for a Tanzania cultural safari.

Lobo, at the eastern edge of the Serengeti National Park and on a small stretch of the Grumeti River that offers excellent year-round game observation, gives unrivaled views of grassland and kopjes. Farther south, outside the game park border, and almost a third as large as the Serengeti National Park, Loliondo is a private concession and more versatile. You may walk and drive without restriction, day and night, on road and off, taking packed meals or dining out in any location you choose. This is truly freedom. You can lose yourself in appreciation of the way of life led by primitive sapiens, with all the visceral satisfactions this entails . Links with the native Maasai community enable you to experience and appreciate a distinct way of life. Your tribal and wildlife tour of Eastern Africa will liberate you by the discoveries you make about who you truly are.

Day 1: Arrive Tanzania

Arrive in Tanzania where you will be met at the airport by us. We will take you to your overnight lodging in Arusha and get you properly settled.

Depending on the option you chose, you will fly or drive to the Ndutu wildlife area. Ndutu is in the southern part of the Serengeti amidst umbrella-thorn acacia trees. At this time of the year Ndutu is host to many international photographers and film crews. The prime attraction is the enormous wildebeest herds in their annual migration through the country.

Day 2: Ndutu Migration Area, Southern Serengeti

Your base of operation will be at the Serengeti Savannah Tented Camp the home of Serengeti Migration Safari right at the heart of the wildebesst migration action. This type of camping may be new to you. You have a verandah in front of your tent with comfortable chairs and tables – a place to relax, bring your diary or bird list up-to-date, or watch the birds and animals that frequent the camp area. Your tent is large and carefully organized and has an attached bathroom with plumbed washbasin, lavatory and shower. Hot water is available throughout the day. Your butler will provide you with drinks and will see that your laundry is done and returned to you promptly. He will wake you in the mornings with tea or coffee and a biscuit/cookie.

Serengeti Safari Camps

After your arrival from Arusha you will move into your tent at the Serengeti Savannah Camps and then enjoy lunch before an afternoon game drive through the Tanzania wonders of the Ndutu area. On the following days of your Ndutu stay you will leave the camp at dawn to see the wildlife activities.

As the mornings are cool, many of the animals who are most active at night will still be out and about. Cheetah and lion will be hunting, along with the rarer African wild cat, bat-eared fox and honey badger. While Ndutu has a variety of wildlife, it has a very large population of gazelles, making it a prime hunting area for cheetah. There are many types of birds in the area as well. The Serengeti plains scenery, wildebeest spectacular will be all around you and as far into the distance as your eye (even with binoculars) can see. The SERENGETI MIGRATION SAFARI also includes large groups of zebra amongst the wildebeests.

For some of these early morning Serengeti adventures, your camp chef will have prepared your breakfast; and at a morning’s stop in the bush, your guide will serve it to you. On other mornings you will return to camp for breakfast. After lunch and your mid-day relaxation in camp, with the herds of wildebeest, gazelle and zebra nearby, you will venture again in the Ndutu wilderness until returning at sunset to your camp for a magnificent sundowner. There will be a campfire where you can meet to discuss the activities of the day and what is planned for the next day. Close the day with a wonderful meal in a spectacular setting.
