Mikumi National Park lie alongside the northern border of Africa’s biggest game reserve – the Selous Game Reserve– forming a unique ecosystem, and is divided by the surfaced road between Dar es Salaam and Iringa. Other natural areas bordering the national park are the Udzungwa Mountains and Uluguru Mountains. A good surfaced road connects Mikumi to Dar es Salaam via Morogoro, a roughly 6 -hour drive.
Early morning pick-up from your chosen location, hotel or accommodation in Dar es Salaam, and drive to Mikumi National Park which is approximately 6 hours from Dar es Salaam. The drive is through some arid vegetation characterized by African Savannah and scattered acacia. You will arrive at your lodge or camp in time for a hot lunch then after lunch you will proceed with the game drive till evening-viewing animals such as elephants, lions, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, wildebeest, hartebeest, antelope, hippos, crocodiles, pythons etc. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Full day of game drive around Mikumi National Park. The park is very rich in varieties of bird species as well as large numbers of giraffes, buffaloes and elephants and close to the water holes also lions, leopards and hippos. Moreover, you can see other interesting animals like zebras, lions, wild dogs, pythons, hartebeest, wildebeest, elephants, impala, warthog, eland and other antelopes. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
After early morning breakfast, check out and begun drive to Selous Game Reserve via Morogoro Town with picnic lunch boxes. On arrival in Selous Matambwe gate, game drive en-route across the vast amazing Selous bush to Mtemere gate for Dinner and overnight at Selous Kinga Lodge.
After an early breakfast you will take off for a full day game drive with a professional guide. Your day will be filled with exploring the park’s wildlife from your seat on an open-sided or open-roofed vehicle. This comfortable and privileged journey through the wild African bush is a chance of a lifetime! This lunchtime pit-stop will be a place with a clear view all round so that no predator will be a threat.
Later in the afternoon you will return to the lodge, at around 1600hrs you will depart for an adventurous and romantic sunset boat safari along the great Rufiji River with the chance at spotting hippo, crocodile and a variety of birds as you enjoy the spectacular sunset. You will later return for dinner and your overnight stay at Selous Kinga Lodge.
Early morning walking safari into the Selous Game Reserve, usually start at 6-6.30am after early morning tea or coffee, accompanied by an armed ranger and it will take around 2-3 hours long. Walking safari is a fantastic way to experience more about the Selous Bushes. Although you may see wildlife during the walk, the focus is also on the habitat that the animals live in, insects, trees and birdlife. You will have an interesting and amazing experience to walk within such a vast area of natural reserve – an experience which very few places in Africa are able to offer! After enjoying your breakfast in the morning, check-out then begin drive back to Dar es salaam for the drop off at your Hotel or airport.
